Next week Blue Earth Area School District residents will head to the polls. This is an important day for the future of our school district and community. The idea of building a new school is not a new topic, nor one that the school board and district leadership have taken lightly. The process to determine how best to invest in our buildings started as a result of a major plumbing issue nearly two years ago. This issue, as well as a long list of other needed updates, forced us to look carefully at the best long-term decision for our school buildings. The plan will allow us to have new and appropriately designed space for our PK-6 grade students, update the HVAC system at the high school, and provide needed gym and large group activity space. The spaces will be designed with safety, accessibility and energy-efficient in mind.
The proposed plan is an investment in our schools that will last generations. A new PK-6 school will allow us to focus more of our annual operating budget on educating students, as opposed to completing repairs on the nearly 100-year-old building.
